Scotland’s Leven Valley Two Day Trial attracted a capacity entry of 300 riders at the weekend, and it was Thomas Hick (pictured above) who rode his Fantic machine to overall victory as he finished just two marks in front of Lewis Johnson (Triumph) with third place Malcolm Summers (Fantic) a further mark adrift.

The annual classic and twinshock event became a reality in 2018 when it was first run by the dedicated team at Kinlochleven and District Motor Cycle Club. Kinlochleven is a village located at the eastern head of Loch Leven in the Lochaber district of the Scottish Highlands. The sections are run in the surrounding hills.

The 300 riders, which contained a contingent who travelled from Spain, competed over 30 observed sections on day one. But a deterioration in the weather meant the section number had to be reduced on day two. The total route was around 50 miles.
Included in the route are some famous sections that are well known to many, including the world-famous ‘Pipeline’ observed hill. This year’s invited guest rider was 2010 Scottish Six Days Trial winner Alexz Wigg. He was competing in his first ever classic and twinshock trial and his chosen machine was a mighty 500cc four-stroke Norton that was loaned to him by his father Julian.

The level of severity on the sections was quite low as the natural terrain and weather conditions around Kinlochleven are enough to find a winner. Every year previously, the winner has been decided by a tie break as it’s common for riders not to lose any marks.
This year, the second day of the event was hit by torrential rain. But that didn’t stop Hick who splashed his Fantic through the water in a superb display of his skills to take the win.
Day one
The event started dry and was only interrupted by the odd shower on the hills above Kinlochleven as the riders took in a wide variety of very traditional sections.
Still very steep and challenging despite the passing of time, there were a number of excellent ‘feet-up’ performances which brought a smile to the faces of the riders who cleaned the sections.
Eight riders finished the day parting with no marks, keeping the competition as competitive as ever with another of riding to follow.

Day two
Heavy rain fell onto the route on Sunday, increasing the levels of difficulty and intensity as the water levels in the river sections rose dramatically.
Sadly the wet conditions contributed to a significant number of retirements, mainly due to machine failure and in some cases rider fatigue.
The organising club had no choice but to remove some of the observed sections but with a handful of riders on scores under 10 marks lost, Hick’s water skills came to the fore and he took a well-deserved win in Scotland.
Kinlochleven and District Motor Cycle Club thank everyone that made the 2026 event a success – particularly the observers and officials that spent a long time on the rain-covered route.
